So where is the Polka in all this? -
a lively 2/4 couple dance that became

In Czech Pulka means half (half step?)
In Czech Polska means a Polish girl
The Polish near equivalent to the Polka is the Krakowiak
The Polka spread to Vienna, St Petersburg, Paris,
London and the USA between 1839 and 1844.
Polka music includes some related to the Skocna
