In asking about cultural differences in musical manners, I wrote,
>Let's eliminate two big variables by taking as given that Europeans,
especially Germans, tune higher than North Americans, and that the music
itself is familiar repertory to everyone involved -- that we're not talking
about, say, a Western clarinetist sitting in with a Japanese koto ensemble;
although that's been done (Steve Roach's "Structures from Silence"). >
What an odd lapse! A few minutes after I sent that, I realized I was
thinking of clarinietist Tony Scott's collaboration with koto player Shinichi
Yuize on "Music for Zen" (1964). Steve Roach isn't even a clarinetist.
Sorry!
