Subj: [kl] cork pad substitute

I've recently been experimenting with new pad
materials and made a wonderful discovery. I compared
a couple of foam shoe liners, and came to the
realization that this material could be used to make
cork-like pads - ala Valentino. Each liner had a
different density which could give varying results in
sound and response. I chose the most dense liner and
simply cut the foam into the proper size, sanded it
smooth, and applied a cardboard backing with
superglue. Installation was the same as a skin pad.

I'm using the pad for the Eb/G# key on the lower joint
and it is virtually noisless and seals like a drum. I
don't think this material is suitable for the lower
joint B and C keys, due to its sponginess. The only
drawback is that I need a new liner for my Columbia
snow boots! Anybody try this before?
