Considering that Crussel was considered by many to be the finest player on
the planet at that point in time, this was a mighty compliment to Hermstedt.

BTW, there are two new editions coming out, published by Ballerbach Music,
Inc., that includes a work originally for wind band by Crussel - Adagio and
Polonaise for Solo Trumpet and Band (originally titled Adagio and Polonaise
for Kenthorn [bugle] and Obligato). The serpent parts have been written
for euphonium/tuba. It should be out in the fall.

Tha other work, in case anyone is interested, is a collection of three
marches for Harmoniemusik by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy that have never
been available before. Originally for chamber band:
(flute/clarinets/horns/bassoons/trumpets/trombones/tubas)

These will also be available this fall from the same publisher.
