don't forget...many of the members of the drum corps work on classical
solo or ensemble pieces throughout the summer to perform at I/E
competition during finals week....many of the larger corps work equally
as hard with those wishing to participate to play classically. Star of
Indiana left the competition field to explore more abstract and
asorteric forms of classical music...also because they were insulted
while in KC.....

in short if directors work to cultivate good musicianship and music into
marching band it can be a mutally rewarding experience for those more
interested in the music. For those unfortunate directors who miss the
point, well, maybe students will have to dig a little deeper to find the
good points, but "don't get hung up on the small stuff," you'll find a
bigger world out there if you experience the "good" and the "bad"

just my 2 cents
