And they might say that about concert band.

I have very few students who have come to me for private lessons

Well, I really liked it, not so much for the enhancement of my musical
talent ( I was first chair in college all 4 years), but for the
socialization and the fun of it. I needed both. All work and no play. .
.

It's just band.

Sure, it's unnecessary. So is air conditioning. But things that seem
unnecessary to you are valuable to others.

OK--I'm talking about Fayette Co. High School, for example (are you
here, Kenny?) They are the biggest marching group around--they are
awesome on the field and in constantly and I guarantee you they march all
fall. They are one of the groups that has been invited (and,
unfortunately, uninvited) to the Olympics in Australia.
Come concert season, they are even more awesome--3 or 4 groups which
consistently are rated superior, some in class 6. And yes, they are the
ones that carry a busload or more to All-State, which is not all that
easy to get into in Georgia. Their director is a very fine clarinetist
and private teacher, too.

Well, OK, knock out country music. And saxophones. (Just kidding,
everybody!!!)
