IN PA there are generally 180 days of school. If concert band meets
every day for 50 minutes that's 150 hours - an 8 hour band camp day
usually includes a one hour lunch, and may include meetings. So seven
hours for 10 days @-----. ALSO -
the in school groups are sometimes released from class to rehearse for
concerts (of which there are three a year (Holiday, Music In Our Schools
Month and Spring). The marching band performs at 9 games (more if the
team is in the playoffs) and several competitions (average is four, I
believe, including championships) All the music is memorized as are the
moves. New things are added and or changes made weekly.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL MY POSTS ARE REGARDING MARCHING BAND FOR THOSE WHO ARE
_not_ PLANNING TO BE MUSIC MAJORS. We get caught up in our own genre and
sometimes forget that the educator's purpose is to create consumers of
good music - not necessarily performers of music.
