G'day all,
Just an amusing anecdote from a concert our chamber groups performed the
other day. Our clarinet quartet has a particularly beautiful arrangement of
Debussey's "Girl With the Flaxen Hair" arranged by one of of our players.
Our woodwind quintet also has a wonderful arrangement of the same piece. It
was the quintet's turn to do their arrangement at this gig (while I was
waiting for the quartet to play) and our boss (who happened to be with us on
this performance - unusual for him to come to a chamber groups concert)
commented to me how good the arrangement was. I agreed with him, mentioning
the quartets arrangement and that I thought it was one of those pieces that
would sound good with any ensemble. He agreed but said that it may not be so
good played by a bagpipe ensemble!! I admit I had to choke back a laugh!

Perhaps others on the list might have other favourite pieces that just seem
to play beautifully no matter the group (bagpipes excepted).

All the best,
Rod.
