You are not paying attention to some of the replies. What people are
objecting to are some of the excessive hours that some schools require.
These excessive hours make it almost impossible in some schools to consider
including other aspects of music. If you make it mandatory to attend an 8
hour per day one or two week marching band camp, then you should do the same
for concert band, wind ensemble, jazz band, etc. You should also require
this intense type of training for anyone taking speech or drama class.

Those who say balance is required are right so reduce the hours for marching
band. Make it fun again.
