Since I started (kind of) this thread, I will reply, yes of course, use a
tuner. Also use your ears.

What do you mean fit? The tenon in the socket, or a match of the bore sizes?
A little extra (or a litte less) cork can fix the first problem. As far as
the bore sizes, the Moennig barrel I bought has a reverse taper, guaranteeing
that the bore of the barrel is smaller than the bore of the upper joint. (See
posting of several weeks ago about Moennig barrels)
