The one big problem I see with schools requiring music students to be
involved in mandatory programs is that it discourages people. Being high
school student my self, I know lots of people that are pretty good musicians,
but only do it for fun. There heart is not in playing there instrument. The
students that are athletes first and musicians second then must make a choice
between doing what they love and what they are really good at or doing music
something they just do for fun, because of the time factor. So when you think
you are really improving your music department, you are in fact losing a
great deal of talent because of overkill. That is the problem with all school
activities these days, eeryone wants you to be well rounded and versatile,
but no one is willing to give in any to allow for this. No offense meant to
anyone on this list.
