i don't see anything wrong with requiring ALL of the aspects of band
for each student....all of them (MB, CB, JB...)all relate to each
otherwhat you learn from one can translate to the others. Those people
who work to be successful within all of the band experience really end
up better for whatever life challenges are ahead than those who choose
to accentuate the negatives.

Just because it's not one's CHOICE or preferred activity doesn't mean
they should be excused from it at all. Allowing ourselves to drop
what's new, hard, annoying, etc doesn't expand frame of references. We
don't always get to do everything we want or don't want.....that's part
of learning.

Karena...you said it very well....as clarinet turned percussionist for
D& B corps, I feel the same way. Life is not a series of cut and dry
choices "I like this," or "I want that," it's experience. You can't sum
up experience in a few short sentences, life can't be boiled down to
what we want or don't want. Take the good with the bad. Besides you
never know, your worst nemesis could become your best
friend(experience).

thanks for taking time to listen as I muddle through some thoughts.

jacque
just my 2 cents
