Alfred Reed has an arrangement of "Come Sweet Death" by J.S.Bach, and it is
quite beautiful!! I played it years ago, (1976), at Mid-West with my junior
high band. A recording was made by Crest Records, but I don't know what
became of those recordings. It was published by Barnhouse and they would
probably have a recording of it. Furthermore, Alfred Reed may have a
recording.

Reed also did many other Bach Chorales, and most of them are beautiful. My
favorite is "My Jesus! Oh, What Anguish". "My Heart Is Filled With Longing"
and "Forget Me Not Oh Dearest Lord" are also very beautiful. If you want to
develop brass embouchures, try "Thus Do You Fare, My Jesus". But they're
all good.....those are just some of my favorites.

The German Title is : "Komm Susser Todd". Though clever, music by PDQ Bach
is never beautiful! PDQ Bach is a pen name for Peter (Schikele, sp?), and
all of those works are examples of poor compositional techniques, and are
meant to be hilariously funny.

Carl Schexnayder

Hello all, at a recent all-county festival, I played a band arrangement of a
Bach piece called "Come Sweet Death". I thought it was absolutely one of the
most beautiful pieces of music I had ever heard and I decided I wanted to
buy
a recording of this piece. I've checked some catalogues of bachs works but I
havent found anything, and that which I did find was in German. Does anyone
have any knowledge of this piece, and if so what the title, "Come Sweet
Death" would be in German so I can look easier. Come to think of it, the
piece could have been by C.P.E. Bach, I dont know Im confused. ANYWAYS, can
anyone help me?
Thanks
Andy
