I know that you are coming from a very different perspective than I am.
However, All the marching bands that I have been a part of have put
musicality and musicianship above marching or equal to marching. No band
director that I know of wants to put on a bad show. For example, last year
the H.S. band director of the small town I teach in did Carmena Barera
(please forgive spelling as I've never heard the piece or seen it) as a
field show. My own H.S. experience did everything from Rock to Classical on
the field. I know that you aren't putting down all MB programs, but I felt
the need to tell my experience

I would totally agree with you here. ANY "insane" teacher I would pull my
children out of their class / program. Well that is when we have kids <big
grin>. I was one of those who hated MB in my freshman year and ended up
loving it by my senior year and then disappointed when my college only had a
pep band. Oh well ... I'm an assistant director of sorts for a MB program .
That's good enough for me at this time :) take care folks .... now back to
lurking <bigger grin>

Will

P.S. I recieved Patty's post three times. The second with an addendum and
the third the same as the second. Was this on purpose or an email burp?
