holidays and weekends, they watch videotapes of drum and bugle corps or
marching band competitions. If you go to their music teacher's staff
meetings, they talk an incomprehensible jargon belonging to the drum and
bugle corps culture. To participate, you need to learn casually to
throw
about such terms as "curvo-linear," "horns south," and others. However,
at no time in these meetings will you hear any mention of music.
Then maybe you should ask about the music.....sure there are some
directors who really don't get what drum & bugle corps is about and it
sounds like you may have found one, but there are many more out there
who do....directors talk alot about the marching aspect because in order
to pull off the music you have to march flawlessly...Whether it's simple
or hard or flashy drill.....go to any state contest and those groups
that can't march well, control breathing, control body movements
etc....are the groups that are just bad....sure they are trying and
kudos to them for getting out there and doing their best, but they are
missing a crucial part....
there's more to learn from MB than park 'n' blow.........even if
musicality gets pushed to the side......look below the surface. More
and more top executives are coming out and saying how important music
(specifically MB) helped them hone the skills to get them where they are
today....
lets help those struggling to find the right mixture and make it a
positive experience...

just my 2 cents
