Nope, not the case at all. She is entering her freshman year in high
school. Both of her parents are professional musicians, and are as
distressed as I am about the situation. The student has been studying
piano for 8 years, and has played saxophone for three years in elementary
school and junior high school. She recently decided, on her own, that she
wanted to play the bassoon. She is an extraordinarily talented and
dedicated musician. When she came to her lesson yesterday afternoon,
between marching band rehearsals, she could barely drag herself up the
stairs to get to my studio. Her mother was with her, and she was
concerned enough about her daughter's physical well-being that she had
reluctantly come to the realization that her daughter was not going to be
able to accomplish anything in her lessons under the circumstances.

See a later message of mine concerning the way the band rehearsals are
scheduled.
