Subj: [kl] mail order - local shops
Date: Tue, 20 Jul 1999 05:01:39 -0400

I and my family had a holiday in the States in May last year. As part of the
trip,(besides Disneyland/World and the major centres - NYC, Washington etc.)
I talked my wife into a detour via South Bend In. (It's amazing how many of
my friends, not the least among those who live in America who asked why I
could possibly want to go there???). My visit to WW&BB was excellent. I
tried out a number of instruments (due to time restrictions not as many as I
would like to have) and chose an A and a Mouthpiece I was happy with and
looked at the list of other items I wanted to purchase. But then I realised
that I had to go and pick up my wife and kids from where I had deposited
them before I ventured into the store and I hadn't even started to get the
remainder of my purchases. I explained I would be back to pick up the rest
of my purchase. "Give me the list and I will collect it all for you" said
the girl behind the sales counter. Sure enough, when I returned, my order
was sitting in a box ready for me to pick up (it was not a small order.) The
only problem was waiting the hour to be able to get to the sales counter to
pick up the order because of the number of people who were in the store. I
don't remember being in a busier store. They are definitly NOT just a mail
order shop. Much of their business is over the counter.

I haven't dealt with IMS but they are probaly similar.

I don't know of any mail order houses in Australia, but of course the market
isn't as big, so all our dealings have to be with the local store (assuming
there is one). Just remember that it is wonderful to have a choice.

Just my experiences.
All the best.
Rod.
