I do them all the time with my middle son - he's my duet partner (he can
easily sight-read the pieces I'm working on, and since the average trumpet
is a Bb transposing instrument, he can play as written.) He's been my duet
partner at two recitals, too. He's played with different types of mutes or
softly, depending on the type of music. He's also my piano accompanist - and
makes a bit of money during the Solo & Ensemble festivals being an
accompanist for his friends.
