I followed my own advice, and took another look at Don's book to refresh
my memory. Clarinetists in the studio orchestras whom he mentions
include: D. H. McKinney and Hugo Raimondi at MGM, Julian Spear, Russell
Cheever, Les De Lime, Peyton Legare, Lyle Sharpe and Bill Ulyate at 20th
Century Fox, and others.

No one, including Don himself, seems to know exactly how many movies he
played for, but there seem to have been literally thousands. He was the
first-call bassoonist in the movie studios for over 52 years. Some of the
movies which he did include A Star is Born, Prisoner of Zenda, Snow White
and the Seven Dwarfs, Adventures of Robin Hood, Alexander's Rag Time Band,
A Christmas Carol, The Wizard of Oz, Wuthering Heights, Gone with the
Wind, Young Mr. Lincoln, Intermezzo, The Grapes of Wrath, Fantasia,
Pinocchio, Tin Pan Alley, Citizen Kane, The Philadelphia Story, How Green
Was My Valley, Tobacco Road, Springtime in the Rockies, Song of
Bernadette, Laura, Lifeboat, Jane Eyre, State Fair, My Darling Clementine,
Miracle on 34th Street, Forever Amber, Twelve O'Clock High, All about Eve,
With a Song in my Heart, The Pride of St. Louis, Gentlemen Prefer Blonds,
How to Marry a Millionaire, The Robe, There's No Business Like Show
Business, Daddy Longlegs, Love is a Many Splendored Thing, Seven Year
Itch, Bus Stop, Carousel, The King and I, Peyton Place, The Sun Also
Rises, Three Faces of Eve, South Pacific, The Diary of Anne Frank, North
by Northwest, Cleopatra, The Sound of Music, Camelot, Planet of the Apes,
Hello Dolly, Patton, The Omen, Star Wars, Alien and Star Trek.

It's an amazing story.

BTW, the book can be obtained from Christlieb Products, 3311 Scadlock
Lane, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403. The usual disclaimer - I have no commercial
interest in Christlieb Products or his book. Since I have had the
opportunity to meet Don and get to know him, I just enjoy listening to him
whenever I see old movies on TV.
