Just a pause in the Retail Wars.

I finally got my Selmer CT (1955) back from John, my repairman, who did a
marvelous job overhauling the wee beast. I've been looking forward to
playing it ever since I bought it-- and I was not disappointed. What a
lovely, big sound, what a difference from my
equally-beloved-but-it's-a-student-horn-alright clear Buffet B-12.

I'm by no stretch a great player, but I love jazz clarinet nontheless. On
a good day I can almost approach levels of bare competence. However, I
could still tell that this horn responds very differently than the B12
does-- the throat tones are in tune, I could hit altissimo notes cold,
something that takes a few minutes of warm-up to do on my B12. Adjusting
the notes for intonation was not as severe, either. And the sound was
amazing-- clear and loud; good, strong overtones. I'm really going to love
blowing my trumpet player out of the water at the next Dixieland gig.

Anyway, forgive this moment of giddyness. I'm sure that most of you felt
this the first time you had a great pro clarinet in your hands.
