I have worn retainers for the last twenty-five years and have had no
problems playing with them. To make playing easier have your student ask
her orthodontist if she can wear Essex retainers. They are a very thin,
crystal clear film of acrylic that fit the teeth like a glove and are
virtually unnoticeable by the wearer. I use them all the time and they have
the added benefit of protecting the lips from the teeth when playing. Mine
cover only the front six teeth, upper and lower. They cost me $75 per pair
and I have only had the original pair. I have been using them for about
twelve years and have never had to have them replaced. They don't require
any training period and are very difficult for others to see unless the
wearer says something about wearing them. Good luck.
