I will try not to be obtuse. Many who have contributed to this thread have
been there--done that, so to speak.

Let me tell you a true story.

Right after the Leblanc K series mouthpieces came out, and while they were
still under the close supervision of Tom Ridenour, I bought a sampler kit of
them. (Back then, they were quite fine. Maybe the best thing on the market
in their price range.) Every mouthpiece in the series was represented.

I told a clarinet playing "friend" about them. He made arrangements with me
to come to my house on a Sunday to try them out. I brought them home from
the store and spent two hours of my time with him while he went through just
about every one of them.

Found out later that he bought three of them through a discount house. Saved
$15 after paying the shipping.

I guess you're right, he must have had bills to pay. I know he lives in a
$250,000 house and drives a new car.

At least I steared him in the right direction. No my price was not super
competative, but I thought I was offering a unique service.
