And I forgot to mention the trumpet player who slammed into a wall at full
speed on a luge cart, bruising abdominal muscles fairly effectively! The
difficulty with instruments was trying to get them warm - I eventually
resorted to wrapping myself around my bass clarinet to try and raise it
above 10 degrees, because it was taking too long to warm up by blowing
through it. Fitting everything into the truck had its moments also - when
you have five timpani, marimba, vibraphone, bass drum, glockenspiel, congas,
tamtam, tubular bells, two tubas, eight cellos, drum kit, bass guitar and
amplifier, PA system, stands for all the percussion gear, and three double
basses and stools to fit into one two-ton truck, things get interesting. We
couldn't actually get it all in - the double basses had to go in the back of
the buses, as did most of the cellos. Apart from that, no problems!
