I had much experience with this. My tounging was definitely affected by the
retainer. Playing without it is seems to be defeating the whole purpose of
the retainer. Basically I got used to playing with it and that was it.

Subject: [kl] Playing clarinet with a Retainer

Hello fellow Klarinters,

I'm back for a while, with a question.

I have a student that just got her braces off, and now she has a retainer.
My
question is if she practices with the retainer, will that effect the tone?
My first response was that no, it will not affect her tone, but her tounging
may be affected. |Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks,

Rachael Orbach
