Klarinet Archive - Posting 000418.txt from 1999/07

Subj: [kl] Ostend and Jose Avelino Canongia (1782-1842)

At the highly successful conference at Ostend... where I met no klarinet
listers at all,
and only 5 Brits up to Friday morning... many of us are still knocked out
by the youthful vivacity and precision of Boeykens' choir and I had heard
them before...
(- and I also wish to applaud Guido Six, his wife, family and friends after
every miraculous
administrative movement - in the introduction to the concert programme he
said
(page 4) that it made his life hell for 2 months and I can believe it) but I
digress!

- I met Antonio Saiote (from Portugal).
He told me that he had recorded the 3rd Concerto
by Canongia commercially, supposedly the best of the 4.

I have of course now written to him for further information.
In the meantime can anyone enlighten me?
Does anyone know of this recording?
Possibly no longer available, but made in the USA.

I found the orchestral parts but no scores of the 3rd and 4th Concertos
and an Air Varie in the National Library in Lisbon .
He also said that Concertos 1 and 2 still exist but they are not there.

Many thanks
Mike Bryant
