To all:

I did a clarinet search on Amazon.com the other day and ordered several
CDs. Of the bunch received, three deserve a "Must Buy" rating from me.
All are on the Naxos label and represent both great performances and
good values. The first is a recording of three Bernhard Crussell
concerti, with Per Billman as soloist and the Uppsala CO. Brilliant
playing, with a gorgeous sound (Naxos 8.554144 - $5.49). Second is an
unusual pairing of two trios; the first by Ferdinand Ries (Op. 28), and
the second the "other" Beethoven Trio, Op. 38 (after the Septet, Op.
20). The clarinetist is Jurgen Demmler (of the Baden-Baden SO). Good
stuff! (Naxos 8.553389 - also $5.49). The final CD (and my favorite) is
by the Budapest Clarinet Quintet, Bela Kovacs, leader. Over an hour of
short pieces, ranging from Rimsky-Korsakov, to Strauss, Joplin and Errol
Garner. Impeccable intonation, technique and ensemble playing from all
five players (Naxos 8.553427 - $5.49 again). Quite a well spent $18, I
think.

I must stay away from Amazon.com.................... over 700 CDs.!
