Years ago, the campus radio station at the University of Evansville had a
time devoted to classical music. They would take communications majors,
some of whom might never have heard art music before, put them in the
studio with a stack of classical records, and in effect tell them that
they were classical D.J.'s. As you can imagine, the results ranged from
comical to almost tragic.
Once I tuned in and heard the last couple of minutes of Tchaikowsky's 4th
Symphnoy. After it ended the announcer said, and I am quoting this word
for word, because I can never forget it:
"That was...... (pause)..... (sound of papers shuffling as he reached for
the album cover) Cha-KOW-ski's symphony number....... 4, 5, and 6. Of
course, that wasn't all the same song, but what the heck?!"
Now, how can you argue with logic like that?
