I suggest that you start by making a fundamental change in your
consideration of the problem. Instead of "thinking about a wooden one,"
instead think about a *good one.* Most of the high-quality clarinets in
the world today are made of wood (of one sort or another), but there may
be many other factors besides the material which make them outstanding.
For example, bore and tone hole design, mechanics and workmanship also are
factors. You may find that your preferred instrument may be made of a
composite material or even of plastic.

What company is the best? According to previous discussions on this list,
there is a widely-held conception that the best company is definitely ....
Buffet/Yamaha/LeBlanc/Selmer/Patricola/Wurlitzer. ;-)

I know that isn't particularly helpful, but neither will it be especially
helpful to you to get the widely varying opinions of hundreds of people
about their own preferences. Instead, get the advice of your teacher. If
you don't have a teacher, get one, a highly-qualified one.

Good luck.
