I think what all of this boils down to, is:

What is the purpose of music in our lives?
I do not make music like a textbook player. I never will, nor do I want to.
As for audiences, it matters not why the come. I feel I am a success if I
can get them to respond to the music, or, if the ensemble of which I am a
part can get them to respond to the music.

You had very sensible comments on this issue, as did most folks.
I think it is something we need to look at, all of us, as musicians.
