Johan Thole wrote, re. the www.classicsax.com archives that Carl Schexnayder
recommended,
>I agree that classicsax has a lot of information. However, I prefer the
search facilities of the sneezy archive. The classicsax archive (at least the
equipment part) also takes very long to load on my computer.>

Yeah, alas, you could die of old age waiting for that site to load. Message
traffic on the classicsax BB has fallen off in the last year and I think it's
because the slowness frustrates people. The site uses one of the older BB
systems and we're quickly getting spoiled by speed demons like the sneezy BB.
Occasionally someone will leave a plaintive message on classicsax.com,
begging the webmaster to archive some of the old messages. The site became
so overloaded that it crashed at least once. However, some helpful,
knowledgeable people use the site, including Paul Lindemeyer, whose book I
quoted a couple of days ago, and Paul Cohen, who writes the "Vintage Sax
Revisited" column for _Saxophone Journal_, so I do think it's a good site to
visit.

Information about saxes (much of it unfortunately plagiarized) is spread out
all over the 'Net. Not a hint, Mark, honest, since I know you must be
overworking already with everything you've taken on here, but I wish someone
with good computer skills *and* knowledge of saxes would set up a
non-commercial sax site similar to www.sneezy.org. Here's one non-commerical
site with information archives and a lot of saxophone links that will lead
people to a number of other sites with information:
<A HREF@-----.org/">ISHP: The International Saxophone Home
Page
</A>
And here's a commerical site with saxophone serial numbers, links and other
information, although according to a current controversy on the TPIN
(trumpet) list, some material on cryogenics has been reprinted here without
acknowledgment or permission:
<A HREF@-----.com/">Steve Goodson Woodwinds LLC, New
Orleans, LA ...
</A>

Good hunting--
Lelia
