There is no reason, other than lack of expertise on the part of the
cannoneer, why a civil war field piece would not fire reliably. The
North-South Skirmish Assn. regularly shoots them in competition, and I can
only recall one misfire in over twenty years. Personally, I'd be a bit
nervous around someone who is fiddling with a cannon and has a misfire rate
of over 50%.

Cheers,
MikeC

OK everyone, 'fess up. How many of you played yesterday or will play today,
the 1812 Overture with cannons? (Extra points for real church bells.) BTW,
our cannons didn't work very well -- only a two or three of the seven went
off when they were supposed to. (But then, they *were* civil war cannons
and
I suspect civil war clarinets wouldn't have worked too well either!) When
the rest of the cannons finally fired, however, they provided a great effect
in "The Stars and Stripes Forever" which followed.

Maybe they'll work tonight.... I can hardly wait.

Best regards,
Jack Kissinger
