Richard Tremper writes regarding right hand stress imposed by thumb rest
on Buffet clarinets.

Richard: The position of the thumb rest on my R13 was troublesome to me
after playing a Leblanc. For me it was about one centimeter too low on
the 2nd joint (toward the bell) which positioned my thumb opposite my
right ring finger. This caused a pivoting action when playing C/F key
as it would tend to pull my forefinger away from normal position on the
Bb/B key. I simply unscrewed the thumbrest and turned it around. With
a rubber pad it is better than before but not all that much. The
Kooiman looks comfortable but ungainly. I've never seen one yet in the
field. I resist paying the price they want for the adjustable. Turning
it around,at least, took off some of the strain. Don
