The Orlando (Florida) Concert Band performed yesterday afternoon at the
Disney Institute, part of the huge WDW complex. The facility was
excellent--an outdoor ampitheater with a covered stage and sound technicians
to do the mixing for our soloists.

The program included four marches, one of which was Stars and Stripes, two
instrumental solos--trumpet and xylophone, and five patriotic pieces where we
accompanied a vocalist. We played 17 pieces in a two-hour concert that
included a half-hour intermission. We had only three rehearsals to prepare,
but used some program material from earlier concerts.

This was my first ourdoor concert in years. We managed to keep our music on
the stands using clothes pins and other restraints. The weather looked
threatening, but we (or rather our audience) only got about two minutes of
very light rain. The clouds helped keep the temperature in the lower 90s,
which was a blessing.

It was great fun, and our audience was enthusiastic. It looks as if we may
be invited to play again on Labor Day weekend. I'll post a message here when
we find our for sure, in case anyone will be in the Orlando area for the
holiday.

Thanks to all who shared their July 4th experiences.

Regards,

Jim B.
