I am resending this message, because I did not send it to the entire list the first time.

Chris,

I am presently using a fingering that my teacher has given me that works
very well.

On my left had I put the third finger down to cover the C/G hole.
On the Right hand I cover the third hole down (G/D) and I press
the C/F key for the right or left hand depending on where I go next.
This actually gives a very nice sounding B flat.

If you have Tom Ridenours' fingering book, this fingering is pictured
on Page 7. It is #2 for the fingerings for B flat.

The other thing I have recently done is fix my left hand position. My teacher
noticed that I had started to raise my left wrist. I had done this while working
on the Arpeggios in the Andante portion of Solo De Concours. I was attemptiing
to get my index finger into a better position to get to the A key faster. This created
a number of problems including covering the first hole on the left upper joint, which
actually created even more stuffiness. After discovering this I spent a large amount
of time in front of a mirror to make sure I broke this habit quickly. Along with that I
recently purchased and exercise book by Kalmen Opperman which has some excellent
left had exercises. This book has helped me greatly to develop a more smooth movement
to the B flat fingering. I practice these exercises using the above fingering.

I know that I have gone beyond the point of your question, but I thought that this
might help someone else out there who struggles with smooth transition to the B flat.

You can get the Opperrman book through Eble Music, 319-338-0313. They also carry
the fingering book by Thomas Ridenour.

I hope that this helps.
