Simon Rattle to Berlin.

Apparently the battle for conductorships is on. Simon Rattle, a British
conductor from Birmingham England, is to get the job with the Berlin
Philharmonic.
Rattle's Informal tendencies may grate on the institution that spent
almost 40 years under Karajan.

Karajan's only crisis with his Berlin orchestra is when he erred on the
side of liberality and invited a female clarinetist to join the fiercely
all male band.

Of course, we know that the female clarinetist was Sabine Meyer. She
was there for only one year.
