Might want to check the tip of the mouthpiece under a strong magnifying glass
before working on the student's embouchure. I bought a used clarinet with a
hard rubber mouthpiece that had an excellent tone but whistled occasionally.
At first I assumed I just wasn't used to that mpc yet, but the whistle got
worse, and finally the mpc began to squeak. When I inspected it carefully, I
discovered a very fine, nearly invisible crack running from the tip into the
beak area. Probably the whistle turned to a squeak as the crack worsened. I
was able to seal this crack by rubbing black epoxy into it, then wiping the
excess glue off the top of the beak to leave a smooth surface while the epoxy
was still very wet. So far, the repair is invisible and holding.

Good luck--
Lelia
