During university years and then afterwards as a part-time professional
(when I wasn't teaching) I played in opera and theatre orchestras. The
clarinet books almost always have doubling. Opera, of course, is Bb/A most
of the time, with bass clar. thrown in, occasionally. Theatre show books
can become absolutely strange. Don't remember what the show was but we had
(I think) Bb/A/Alto sax/Bass Clar/Oboe/English Horn/G flute all in one.
The 1st flute book had some strange cross-overs, as well. The flutist also
played oboe well. My oboe playing has driven off the cats for weeks at a
time. We sat side by side and swapped parts back and forth. When she's
take the oboe part, I'd switch to flute, and so forth. Managed to cover
everything, except no one had (or could find) a G flute. I think we just
transposed it.

Having gone through all that, your question about embouchure is that at
first, it plays havoc. After a while, it becomes fairly natural. I think
the one thing that bothered me was switching back and forth between bass
clar & Eb sop. clar., and even that wasn't >too< bad. It just never became
automatic.
