Found the same thing - had alto probs, switched to bari and everything came
right.....I've had to give up my bari sax spot in a stage band, and I miss
it so badly! There's something about the sheer power and grunt of a bari
that I loved! Also, being able to anchor the rest of the section is a great
feeling. My alto gets very little playing - I pulled it out for a jam
session at a friend's birthday party a couple of weeks back, and realised it
was six months since I'd played it.....
I also found that my bari sax playing helped my b-cl. Don't know why, but
it made quite a big difference.
