Is there any particular reason you are not
considering the Eastman School of Music in
Rochester, NY? Or did you simply forget to
put it on your list of schools? I'm not
sure about the undergraduate situation at
Eastman these days, but I would say it's still
a school worth considering. Some scuttlebutt
I've heard within the past year suggests that
Eastman's undergraduate admissions standards
have dropped over the years. At the same
time, however, I received a note from a
friend (and recent graduate of the under-
graduate program) who stated in superlative
terms that he can't imagine receiving a better
clarinet performance education at any other
institution. Ken Grant and Joh Manasse are
reputed to be a couple of the finest teachers
in the country.

Ben Maas: with whom did you study beyond
Hadcock when you were there?

Anyway, I'd have Eastman send you their
information/application packet, if only to
have a point of reference relative to the
other schools you listed.
