I remember watching this same conversation unfold about 8 months ago or
so......!

I don't know if swabbing affects the bore of a clarinet - if it does, I
haven't discovered that for myself (although I have never owned a clarinet
and played on it for longer than 12 years). However, I wore out a
mouthpiece with daily, sometimes double daily swabbing in college - wore
the tip to a tin razor edge with a standard Buffet swab. I wondered why
it kept getting more and more "chirpy" and one day noticed the dip toward
the tip rail - had to get it refaced. Eventually, I just moved off that
mouthpiece. John Mohler told me not to swab my mouthpiece daily but to
use some kleenex to soak off the moisture - Shifrin told me not to swab it
at all - maybe just once a week. I tend to follow that advice because it
is easier than the kleenex route.

So........for me, swabbing the mouthpiece regularly and often is a
problem. But for everyone else?
