I had a 55,xxx series Buffet R13, and they actually forgot to undercut
the upper joint.
Anthony Gigliotti told me that he had never seen that before, and he was
about sixty at the time, so he had seen quite a few clarinets. He did
some undercutting, and we had Mark Jacobi do the rest. It finally played
like a clarinet
when we were done! No wonder it looked like new when I got it: it was
too stuffy for anyone to play on! The pitch required a lot of lipping,
needless to say.
