Answer: I would suggest a few coats of DEFT WOOD FINISH to bring the
clarinet back to life. It is quite smooth and is durable even when exposed
to moisture.

Have any on the list experimented? I've inserted tape to reduce bore and
achieved the lowering of pitch and slight darkening ( apply more flame
retardant) of tone as expected. These were only preliminary temporary
investigations. Would any who have repair experience on older horns care
to comment? Alvin?

Answer: Clarinet bore dimension fluctuation can be compensated for through
the Barrel and Mouthpiece diameters. Volume expansion of the upper joint can
be compensated for by using a small bore Moennig Barrel and 1/2 mm tuning
rings at the top and bottom barrel sockets. The tuning rings compensate for
increased bore volume(when the barrel is pulled out) and improves the Wide
12ths with linear expansion of the bore.
