Just a follow-up:

Thank you for all the suggestions a few weeks ago for getting a
neckstrap on a clarinet with Buffet's flat plastic thumbrest.

That worked! For less than $12 total. The only complication is that
the F/C key on the left is now hitting the lyre and doesn't have enough
room to close. We may end up at the repairman yet. But, that would
have been a problem with the lyre no matter how we were using it.
