I play a crystal bass clarinet mouthpiece (it's a Pomarico 2) and I like it.
It makes it easier for me to project through the orchestra without
sacrificing my tone. As Fred Jacobowitz said, though, they are as
individual as hard rubber mouthpieces. I do find that mine collects gunk
(or maybe it's just that the gunk is more visible.....) but it's easy to get
off with a little bit of weak vinegar (which is fine so long as you rinse
the mouthpiece well!). And if you drop it, it's all over (probably not so
much with a b-cl mouthpiece, because it's got thicker walls, but I'm still
extra careful). I've never played a crystal Bb mouthpiece and don't plan
to, but it just comes down to individual choice. Try them, but don't treat
them as anything different from a hard rubber mouthpiece.
