Antoine was not certain if it was the clarinet or Combs.

When Larry and I did the Gran Partitta together with the Montreal
Symhony, he had, at that time, never played basset horn and did not
own one. I brought an extra along with me and he met me at the
airport, took the horn to practice on that afternoon and we had
the first rehearsal that night.

I was furious. I had been playing the horn for many years. He
had about 2 hours on it, and he played circles around me!! His
sound was magnificent and his command of the instrument quite
complete.

Sigh. The difference between talent and real talent!
