A big part of my job with the South Dakota Symphony is to go to schools
around the state and play quintet or orchestra concerts for the kids.
One of the students who experienced such a concert (before I joined the
group) went on to become a member of our full-time core. One of the
reasons she came back to SD was to give back something like she was
given. We recently opened a new concert hall, and the first performances
were a set of children's concerts. We need to nurture our future
audiences in this way.
