Why not put a digital soprano on stage and be done with it? I'm sure
Industrial Light and Magic could assemble a realistic soprano, with the voice
of Birgit Nielsen, the body of Marilyn Monroe, and the dancing ability of
Gypsy Rose Lee (especially useful for Salome).

BTW, this loosing battle has been going on for a long time. Opryland in
Nashville used to employ lots of stage musicians for their shows. This was a
good source of "extra" income for some of the Nashville players.

Management said "these musicians" are too expensive, and started to use
click-track for several of their shows. (Interesting behavior for a park
dedicated to music).

Of course, the whole matter is moot. Opryland (the amusement park) is now
shut down and being dismantled. In its place? Of course! Factory outlet
stores!!!!!!!!!!! The true culture of late 20th century America.

Quite simply, the culture that we live in does not value the performing
musician. It looks down on the musician as some kind of itinerant. "Yes, I
know you're a musician, but what do you do for a living?"

Sorry if I sound bitter, but I left the professional music field years ago
because of society's attitude. (Also......let's be truthful here...... I just
wasn't talented enough to get a major symphony job and I was tired of
teaching and getting paid a pittance.)
