It isn't elegant, but I just maneuver the reed with my thumb the same way I
do when I set my reed up on my mouthpiece. I haven't seen a new one
recently, but Cordier used to put a flat spring-metal strap across the
bottom (where the butt end of the reed sits) and a threaded adjuster to move
the reed up or down with respect to the cutter, but I took the straps off
the two that I own and never use the threaded mechanism.
