Hi Roger,
I haven't posted in a while, but when you mentioned the Yamaha clarinet, it
caught my eye. I was wondering if you ever tried the Yamaha AE? It's the
professional model that's supposed to have a bore and tapor similar to the
German bore clarinets. I recently ordered one, (along with several other
professional clarinets), for a couple of my students to try. They loved it
and picked it above the Selmer Recital and Signature, and an R13. I also
liked the sound better. (I really don't want to get into trying to describe
the sound due to past experiances). We found the pitch to be remarkably
accurate, (except for the open g, which, I think, was a little flat). I was
not able to play the instruments because I had just had to have all top
teeth removed, (another story). However, since I don't recall anyone ever
mentioning the Yamaha AE, I thought I'd ask if you had tried them, or if
anyone else on the list has. Most German bore clarinets are very expensive,
but I thought the Yamaha was very reasonably priced. I think it was around
$1600.00 from WW and BW.

I'd like to hear your comments, or any comments anyone would care to offer.

Thanks,
Carl Schexnayder

Didn't notice you were from the Netherlands.......but I have heard this
before about popularity of the R-13 there.

What more could you ask? But - is it waranteed against cracking via
either the dealer or Yamaha? If so, sounds like you have found a clarinet.

Why is this? You can purchase insured and with guaranteed results. Is
there a problem with ordering via mail-order from the USA to the
Netherlands? Some kind of difficulty with customs?

Good luck!
