Following my successful cataract surgery (BOTH eyes, I can see well for
the first time since I was 9!), I'm catching up.

The same idea occurred to me me: "where is it written" that the only
music playable on a bass clarinet was written FOR the bass clarinet? If
you want to get inspired, on one of Feidman's CDs (it's just called
"Feidman plays Bloch, Olivero, Bat Chaim"), he plays an adaptation for
bass clarinet of Bloch's "Schelomo." Apparently (correct me?), the
range of the cello and bass are remarkably similar. You know you've
arrived when you can play this thing. But just to listen to the
possibilities of this so-called "harmony clarinet" as a solo
instrument...it's magnificent.

The written score goes back and forth between treble and bass clef. I
have no idea of the technical considerations here that would necessitate
that

I've heard of someone also giving a shot to playing the Bach Cello
Suites on the bass. That is ALL bass clef. I would walk a mile to hear
that. I'd crawl two to be able to play one bar of it.
